While its base clock rate is a paltry 3ghz, turbo boost takes it up to 3.5ghz in. That said, as a workstation cpu the 6900k is bested only by the $2,000 flagship ten core 6950x. Looking at the top of the line for x99, i can get a 6900k for a little over $200 and a 6950x for a little over $300.
